Opalescent Ammonite on Matrix
Placenticeras
Cretaceous
Bearpaw Formation, Alberta, Canada
Ancestor to the modern chambered nautilus, ammonites have existed for nearly 330 years, yet few fossil ammonites approach the beauty of specimens from this locality. Exhibiting the brilliant opalescence of the best specimens from the Bearpaw Formation, the present specimen predominantly displays luminous red-orange, with intense emerald green.
