An Arts and Crafts silver gilt and gem-set necklace by Arthur & Georgie Gaskin
Unmarked,
the central oval cabochon amethyst within a ropetwist and petal border, to a mount of wire scrolls, leaves and florets, with blister pearl and green chrysoberyl collets, and freshwater pearl drop, suspended from a similar rectangular panel with triple chain swags and oval connections, the fine trace-link chain with wire-scroll and leaf clasp, conforming in design, pendant 8cm long, chain 36cm long.

    Provenance: A gift from James Henry Sellers (1861-1954), furniture designer and architect, to his wife, Sarah Mills, and by descent through the family. A self-taught architect and designer, Sellers formed a partnership with Edgar Wood (1860-1935), and together they executed a number of commissions in and around Manchester, concentrating on small innovative commercial and domestic buildings and their interiors. It is believed that they also showed a number of pieces of furniture at the Arts and Crafts Society Exhibitions.
