THE ENYS COLLECTION OF BOOKS ON CORNWALL PITT (THOMAS, baron Camelford)

Footnotes

  • Three scarce pamphlets printed in the wake of Pitt's death in 1804. Born and educated at Boconnoc House, Thomas Pitt accompanied George Vancouver's voyage on the Discovery but was discharged at Hawaii. Five years later, on seeing Vancouver in Conduit Street, Pitt rushed "across the road and proceeded to rain blows upon him with his cane" (ODNB). After a life of rakish adventure he was killed, aged twenty-nine, in a duel.
