PROVENANCE: Private collection, Stockton, California
Pictured is the interior of the home of Roley E. Wilhoit, the original owner of A View from Baker Beach (hanging on the left). Wilhoit came to California in 1850 for the gold rush and went on to make his career in politics and finance in Stockton. Shortly after Wilhoits death, in 1922, the painting was placed behind a false wall in the attic and not discovered by his descendants until 1964.
