- Another impression of this Dorothea Lange print was sold in this sale room, May 21, 2008, sale 16085, lot 97. Other prints of this image, accredited to Lange, are in the collection of the Library of Congress, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Inadvertently Arthur Rothstein's FSA credit stamp was placed on the reverse instead of Dorothea Lange's.
The typed label on the reverse describes this scene:
'This migratory agricultural worker was a tenant farmer from Texas. His story: in 1927 he made $7000; in 1928, broke even; 1929, went in the hole; 1930, still deeper, 1931, lost everything; 1932, started west looking for work. With his wife and family he now seeks jobs in California orchards and fields. Picture taken in Marysville, Calif.'
