Autograph Letter Signed (“U.S. Grant / Lt. Gen.”) in pencil, 1 p, oblong 8vo, Washington D.C., April 20, 1864, to Major General Meade, giving instructions in preparation for the Wilderness Campaign, light creasing and toning to paged, matted and framed with portrait to 10 ¾ by 18 inches.

Grant writes this short letter to Maj. General George Meade, formerly his superior as Commander of the Army of the Potomac, in anticipation of the Wilderness Campaign (May 5-7, 1864). “Maj Gen Meade, HQrs A.P. / Set Engineers to building Block houses at all the bridges between Bull Run & the Rappahanock both included. They should be put up with all rapidity.”
