Thadée and Misia Natanson were at the centre of the Parisian scene of arts and literature at the end of the 19th Century. Thadée started the 'Revue Blanche', which was highly influential and regularly attracted some of the most important cultural figures of the time from Paul Verlaine to Marcel Proust, Henry de Toulouse-Lautrec to Edouard Vuillard and the composer Claude Debussy.

Vuillard is known to have adored Misia who he regarded both as a friend and a muse. She and Thadée posed for him regularly and are featured in many paintings and drawings.
