WISDEN (JOHN) Cricketers' Almanack, a complete run for the years 1864 to 1984, 121 vol., photographic plates in volumes for 1889 to 1915, other plates in volumes 1918 to 1937 as called for, 1934 with original bat bookmark, occasional foxing, uniformly bound in modern green half calf, spines in 6 compartments with gilt stamped cricket motifs (stumps, bat and ball) and year of publication, marbled edges of varying shades, most volumes with original paper or cloth wrappers and advertisements bound in (see condition report for exceptions), 8vo, John Wisden, 1864-1984

  • A COMPLETE SET OF WISDEN ALMANACKS FROM ITS INCEPTION UNTIL 1984, HANDSOMELY-BOUND AND OVERALL IN FINE CONDITION. Without doubt the most famous sports reference work ever published, the Cricketers' Almanack, or "Bible of Cricket" as it has become known, was founded in 1864 by the cricketer John Wisden (1826-1884) as a competitor to Fred Lillywhite's The Guide to Cricketers. Its publication has continued uninterrupted to the present day, under only 15 different editors in its entire 140 years.
