Footnotes

  • The very successful Bergman foundry was established in Vienna in 1885 by Franz Bergman. Bergman was born in Gablonz, Bohemia, which was then part of Austria-Hungary. His son Franz Xavier took over the family business, registering the well known trademark stamp of the inverted vase with the "B" in the middle that the present lot carries to its underside.
