An ivory chess set,
England, circa 1860,
one side stained red, the other side left natural, kings with multiple knops and surmounted with Maltese crosses, queens with baluster knops and reeded ball finials, bishops with open mitres, knights as horses' heads, rooks as raised turrets with flags, pawns with reeded ball finials, in a 19th century wooden and mother o'pearl box inlaid with a Masonic motif,
the king 11cm high, the pawn 4cm high, the box 20cm wide.
