[Grands oraisons funèbres], complete set of 6 works, bound with 11 others in 2 vol., mixed (some first) editions, titles with engraved arms or device, engraved head- and tail-pieces, engraved portrait inserted in second volume, lacking some blank leaves, one title cropped by binder affecting a few letters, a little light spotting and browning, first volume beginning with inserted manuscript leaf, signed by the prefect of the College of the Barnabites at Montargis, recording the presentation of the book by Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orleans, to Louis Pillé as first prize in Rhetoric in 1762, gilt book label of A. de Claye, eighteenth century French mottled calf, covers with large gilt arms of the Duke of Orléans, and interlaced gilt monogram ("CB) of the College of the Barnabites in each corner, gilt panelled spine, repairs to head of joints and one corner, second volume eighteenth century speckled calf, gilt panelled spine, joints cracking, 4to (224 x 167mm. and 240 x 170mm.), Paris, Sebastian Mabre-Cramoisy, 1669-1687

Included in this set of Bossuet's funeral orations is the rare first issue of his Oraison funebre de Henriette Marie de France, Reine de la Grand' Bretagne, 1669, and four that were delivered on the death of Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, vicomte de Turenne. Amongst the 11 works bound in are further funeral orations by Flechier, Menestrier, Le Moyne and others, together with a scarce oration for the wife of the Old Pretender, Oraison funebre de tres-haut, tres puissante et tres-excellente Princesse Marie-Clementine Sobieski, Reine de la Grande Bretagne..., 1737.
