A Lowestoft teapot and cover
Circa 1775.
Of ovoid form with a loop handle and gently curved spout, the domed cover with mushroom finial, painted in 'Tulip Painter' style with two colourful loose bouquets of flowers including tulips and stylised bell flowers, amongst scattered sprigs, within red scrolling borders, 14.5cm high (fine horizontal crack to one side, minute chips to spout) (2)


  • A similar teapot and cover is in the Norwich Castle Museum, see Sheenah Smith, Lowestoft Porcelain, Vol 2 (1985), pl 40a, fig 323. The distinctive scroll border relates to a mug dated 1777, from the Cecil Taylor Collection, sold in these rooms 23 April 2008, lot 242
