the circular top inset with a central Italian roundel of various specimen marbles including lapis lazuli, malachite, verde antico and siena within a Cornish red and green serpentine outerborder, within a leaf carved frame on a baluster leaf carved shaft and cabriole leaf and scroll carved legs and pad feet, old worm damage to base, 82cm diam, 80cm high, (32" diam, 31cm high).

    The above lot relates to the distinctive work of Henry Eyles of Bath, who exhibited several pieces at the Great Exhibtion of 1851. For examples of centre tables attributed to Eyles see Sotheby's, London, 5 June 2007, lot 241 and Christie's, London 9 July 1992, lot 128.

    See also R.Symonds and B.Whineray, Victorian Furniture, London, 1962, page 152, pl.128 for a table presumably by Eyles which was originally part of a morning or drawing room suite together with a pair of card tables, a jardiniere stand and a pair of salon chairs.
