Footnotes

  • The iron barque ‘Victoria Cross’ was built by Jones at Liverpool in 1863. Registered at 669 tons gross & net, she measured 168 feet in length with a 28 foot beam and originally sported a full ship-rig before being cut down to a barque to save on crewing costs. After service with several owners, she disappears from record in the mid-1880s.
