Lange, engraved general map, list of subscribers, text printed on 8 leaves in German and French, occasional spotting, new endpapers, morocco, the upper cover incorporating the original printed upper wrapper with key-pattern border and owl vignette symbolising Athens, slightly rubbed [Blackmer 1595; Weber 1142], large oblong folio, Munich, Dr. Franz Wild, 1841

  • FIRST EDITION. The ten large contiguous plates form a magnificent panoramic view of Athens as viewed from the Acropolis which, if joined together, would measure approximately 455 by 5800mm. Ferdinand Stademann, a Bavarian, was a member of the regency which governed Greece during Otto I's minority (1832-1835), holding the office of Secretary of State.
