Footnotes

  • THE PIERPONT-MORGAN COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION IN ITALIAN. The printing is attributed to Miscomini's Venetian press rather than his Florentine, as the type is close to that used for the Venetian Virgil of 1486, and partly because of the characteristically Venetian watermarks (including a large oxhead with shaft ending in cross and rosette).
