    At the time of the sale in 1994, the present painting was attributed by Professor Nicola Spinosa to Luca Giordano (written communication, 17 June 1986), executed while the artist was in Florence. A further, larger version of the current work was offered at Christie's London, 10 July 1998, lot 243 (as Studio of Luca Giordano). A drawing for this composition is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.
