    Private UK collection.

    The girl depicted was a servant of the Selims when they lived in Uthman Noori Street in Baghdad, between 1951 and 1955, and known to Jewad Selim as 'Fatoma'. The child is her brother.

    The painting on the reverse is by a Jewish artist, name unknown, from whose studio clearance in the early 1950s many boards and canvases were reused. Please note that this painting can be viewed via the online version of the catalogue.
