Born Corisande Armandine Léonie Sophie de Gramont, Corisande married Charles Augustus, 5th Earl of Tankerville in 1806. A number of the de Gramont family sat to portraits by Vigée Le Brun including her grandmother, Gabrielle de Polastron, the Duchesse de Polignac.
A photo-certificate of authenticity from Joseph Baillio dated February 28, 1988 accompanies this lot. The present work will be included in his forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Vigée Le Brun.
