Footnotes

  • James Hamilton's system of teaching languages by interlinear translation had two main principles, that language should be presented to the scholar as a living organism, and that its laws should be learned from observation. This set comprises one edition with the interlinear translation and 24-page of preliminaries (as in the copy in the V & A), and one edition without the English text but with selected words given in English in the footnotes.
