Footnotes
The blue and white chequered flag at the ship's masthead is the rendezvous flag, and the flags below it spell out numbers 1-6-2 in the Marryatt code, which stands for Calcutta. It is likely that having watered and provisioned at St. Helena (as most East Indiamen did), she has not even called at Cape Town but is merely sailing across Table Bay where, seeing another Indiaman, she signals here destination.
