Footnotes
The present work incorporates a number of themes found in Gulgee's work: the use of gold leaf and bright colours which recall Mughal and Pahari miniatures, as well as an allusion to calligraphic forms which he renders with the use of heavy impasto and a suggestion of the dynamic use of paint in Abstract Expressionism and Action painting of the 1950s.
