Russia, late 20th century, designed by Fiodor Shidlovski, carved by Eugeni Kolesnikov,
the chessmen raised on rock-like bases carved from fossilised wood, one side on dark brown bases, the other side on light brown bases, kings as woolly mammoth with tusks and trunk raised, queens as mammoth, bishops as pre-historic rhinos, knights as stags, rooks as bison, pawns as mountain lions,
the king 11.5cm high, the pawn 6cm high.
