Footnotes

  • Often credited with repackaging low culture as high art, Murakami is the originator of the heavily influentual 'Superflat' style which has come to define Japanese contemporary art. In 1996 he founded his 'Hiropon Factory', a large scale studio with numerous assistants which now produces his varied but instantly recognisable art, a distinctive fusion of Pop and Manga imagery.
