Footnotes

  • First registered on 17th May 1973, this Porsche 911 Carrera RS Touring comes with extensive service history from new, including a list of the names and addresses of all previous owners. The car was delivered finished in Signal Yellow with black cloth/leatherette interior and came equipped with heated rear window, sports seats, driver’s door mirror and electric windows. ‘WYW 977L’ retains matching numbers and rolls on correctly detailed Fuchs 7" and 8" wheels.
Sold new by JCT 600, the car was bought for the Chairman of Garfield & Lewis, of Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire as a company car. The Chairman had owned a Ferrari Daytona immediately prior to the Carrera, but could not get on with the latter and after l0 months passed it on through the company to second owner, Peter Latta, who registered it in his own name in 1980. Peter Latta owned the car from the latter part of 1973 until 1989, using it for the first eight years as a daily driver, then latterly for weekends and holidays only. In approximately 90,000 miles of driving, the Porsche broke down only once, with a failed ECU (at 70,000 miles). During Peter Latta’s ownership the car was always serviced by marque specialists, Charles Ivey, of West London.
After two owners in relatively quick succession (John Middlemiss and Christopher Banks) the Carrera was offered for sale at Brooks’ Olympia auction on 27th April 1994 (Lot 175) and registered to its fifth owner, David Hanson, of Sutton Coldfield on the following day. Mr Hanson owned the Porsche until 1999, when it was sold via trader Mark Waring (W W Classics) in June of that year to Andrew Tannahill, of Welbourn, York. During Mr Tannahill’s ownership the Porsche benefited from considerable refurbishment, including an engine rebuild (costing £11,500, invoice available) at marque specialists Gantspeed Engineering, of Mareham-le-Fen, Lincolnshire in 2000. The car was re-sprayed at approximately the same time, although no invoice exists for the repaint. Only some 4,000-or-so miles have been covered since then.
‘XYW 977L’ was next sold (again via Mark Waring) in July 2002 to its seventh owner, Neil Turner. Mr Turner sold the car in September 2005 and the following month it passed to the current owner. Presented in generally very good order, ‘XYW 977L’ represents a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine right-hand drive Carrera RS possessing excellent provenance, only requiring some further detailing to bring it up to a truly very good standard. The car is offered with extensive service history, sundry invoices, MoT to July 2009 and Swansea V5 registration document.
