c.1982 Jawa Speedway Rolling Chassis
Frame no. 13
The ageing JAP engines stranglehold on the speedway world loosened in the 1960s with the arrival of the Czech ESO machines. Founded in 1949, ESO specialised in speedway and other off-road competition motorcycles and was part of the Jawa-CZ group. In 1966 the ESO name was dropped, the firms DT5 speedway model becoming the Jawa 500DT type 680. Presented in good order, this Jawa rolling chassis was used by Canterbury Speedway rider, Rob Tilbury between 1982 and 1987. The machine carries the logo of Shornespeed, Dave Jessups company, which may well have prepared it during its racing career.
