A fine late 17th century ebony veneered basket-topped quarter repeating bracket timepiece

The case surmounted by an elaborate handle over a well executed pierced basket case decorated with cornucopia, swags of fruit and flowers and cherubs, with four small urn finials over a well moulded cornice, repousse mounts to the upper aperture over glazed panels on a moulded plinth, the 6 inch square brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels enclosing a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half hour markers, the matted centre with decorated date aperture below XII, the movement united by four knopped pillars with verge escapement repeating the hours and the quarters on a nest of two bells, the backplate signed in flowing copperplate script over three lines in the centre of an open pattern of flowers and foliage within a single line border 35cm (13.5in) high.
