A good late 17th century walnut longcase clock
Surmounted by an inlaid caddy top over an overhanging cornice to a blind cut fret and well inlaid hood door, the convex throat moulding also inlaid with running foliage, over a long door centred by a giltwood-framed circular glazed lenticle, the inlay depicting a satinwood urn issuing many flowers including tulips and carnations, inhabited by a bird, the lower section of a similar floral display centred by a parakeet, all contained within a half-round moulded edge and an inlaid border, the panel base with matching border on a (later skirt), the 11 inch square brass dial with winged cherub spandrels interspersed with engraved foliage enclosing a Roman and Arabic chapter ring with half-quarter marks and elaborate half hour markers, the finely matted centre with small subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding squares and a decorated chamfered date aperture, (the chapter ring later signed for Daniel Quare, London), the movement with anchor escapement with inside countwheel strike on a bell 2.26m (7ft 5in) high.
