An 18th century brass lantern clock
Thomas Power, Wellingborrow (Wellingborough)
Surmounted by a strapped bell and finial, over three pierced dolphin frets, flanked by four turned acorn finials, the 6.5 inch chapter ring with bold Roman numerals, an inner quarter hour track with dot hour markers and trident half-hour markers, signed in an arc in the engraved centre, with single pierced steel hand, the weight driven movement formerly balance wheel now with verge escapement and countwheel strike on a bell (restorations) 32cm high.

    An inventory of his goods and chattels was taken on 7th July 1709, and included, amongst other items,

    The total value was £53.15.00 yet his widow, Sarah, had a very short time to do any more with the property as she died just two months later. Yet another inventory was taken of the property, this time by four rather than two men. Fuller descriptions were taken and include a pair of bellows, 1 anvil, 5 hammers, a large vice, 3 large screw plates, 1 pair of shears, 1 grinding stone, pliers, files, 2 small quadrants, 3 pairs of compasses, 1 planishing hammer with a benchboard, 2 saws, two dozen large new files and four dozen small files - all items that he might possibly have used to make this clock.
