Footnotes

  • Benjamin Steele was a maker of repute and very few watches by him of this quality exist. Research has been unable to clarify who the initials on the case belong to, but it must have clearly been a noble gentleman or lady as examples like this using gold and white enamel with the rare gold dial and matching chatelaine would have been reserved for special commission watches only. This is further highlighted by Benjamin Steele employing the highly skilled master case maker Peter Mounier who only made the finest cases for the top watch makers of the 18th century.
