Footnotes

  • The 'Double-Red' Sea-Dweller Ref.1665 appeared in the Rolex catalogue from 1973 until 1975. The 'Sea-Dweller 2000' was one of the first production watches to employ a gas-escape valve which allows the interior of a watch to decompress and avoid injury to the wearer and damage to the watch.

This watch was purchased by the vendor from the watch’s first owner, a deep sea diving engineer who travelled Europe doing freelance diving work, who bought it new in Singapore in 1976. It has its original Mk IV dial, and “R O L E X” stamped straight on the case back with full matching serial number on the inside case back and is one of the last Double Red Sea Dwellers to be produced. This watch has never been offered at auction before.
