Footnotes

  • The Ref: 1680 was produced from 1966 to 1980 and examples with the Submariner text in red are believed to have been produced up to 1976, after this date most models found had the text in white.

This watch was purchased by the current vendor direct from original owner and comes complete with its original papers and invoice from the retailer G.W.Cox of Adelaide, Australia dated 22.1.1974 and with a discounted selling price of $280. The handwriting on the receipt correctly matches that as filled out in the Guarantee booklet and the factory paperwork also matches the serial number of the watch.

This watch had a full service by Rolex Australia and importantly the original and desirable matt red Submariner dial and matching hands have been retained. This is the first time this watch has been offered at auction.
