26-jewel Cal.1570 rhodium-plated movement, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and five positions, self-compensating free sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, hack mechanism, matt black dial signed in white, luminous round, triangular and baton indexes, aperture for the date, luminous Mercedes hands, polished and brushed case with screwed-down case back signed ‘Rolex Patent Oyster Gas Escape Valve’, helium escape valve at 9, graduated bi-directional revolving black bezel for the decompression times, stainless steel Oyster bracelet numbered 93150 with locking clasp, together with Rolex outer card box, service history and Rolex service Guarantee dated April 2nd 2008, case, dial and movement signed

Footnotes

  • This model is referred to by collectors as the “Great White” (so named in reference to its white writing dial) This desirable early dial is also identified by it’s small, upright “ft” notation; later dials and service dials have the “ft” larger and in italics. It is believed that the 1665 “white writing dial” was produced in smaller quantities than the 1665 DRSD, making it a rare and desirable watch.

    This watch was purchased by the current vendor direct from the original owner who purchased it in Australia in 1980 it has had just been serviced by Rolex Australia and comes complete with corresponding papers dated April 2nd 2008. This particular watch has never been offered at auction before
