Footnotes

  • Many artists drew and painted the historic shores of the Bosphorus, the deep and narrow channel between Europe and Asia. These views show two of the most iconic scenes to be found along the shores of the Bosphorus: the striking skyline of Istanbul with its soaring minarets and dramatic domes, and the tower at Rumelihisari, the fort situated at the narrowest point of the strait.

Saleroom notices

  • This lot is by Halid Naci (1875-1927) and is signed 'HALID'. It is not by Halil Pacha as previously catalogued. The estimate is now £8,000-12,000.
