  • Born in Victoria, Thorpe was apprenticed to John Fairfax & Sons in Sydney, where he learned drawing and engraving, and became the first staff artist for the Sydney Mail. He lived and worked in both Sydney and London, and became best-known for his woodcuts of flowers. In London, he exhibited at the RA and the RI, and his work is in the collections of the British Museum, London and the Australian National Gallery.
