Group of three rutilated quartz spheres
Minas Gerais, Brazil
The titanium mineral rutile occurs as reddish-brown-to-black crystals, or as golden or silver needles included in quartz. These three transparent rock-crystal quartz spheres contain silvery rutile demonstrating various habits. The fine needles in the first sphere are both straight and curved. The small sphere shows clusters of columnar rutile needles, resembling stibnite. In the third sphere, fine parallel secondary rutile needles grow from the larger columnar crystals. This variation makes for an interesting and educational set of examples. (3)
The three measure almost 2, 1 ¾, and almost 2 inches in diameter (4 ½, 4, and 4 ½ cm)
