Rhodochrosite Stalactite Slice
Catamarca, Argentina
Another particularly large and fine example from a famous lode hit in the late 1980s, from an old estate collection in Los Angeles. Remarkably, and unlike most modern examples from this locality this specimen is unrepaired despite its large size. Suitable for mounting as a vertical display to permit maximum transmission of light, this remarkable cross-section slice demonstrates the incredible growth habit of a rhodochrosite stalactite with its conjoining circles. Many of them have double eyes, known in the mineral hobby as chrysanthemums. Polished on both sides to a mirror finish and displaying the most sought-after strawberry red color.
