Gold Slickenside
Here is a slickenside specimen of magnificent proportions: in a slickenside piece, one vein of gold growing through quartz is considered exceptional; in this piece, there are dozens. The phenomenon is caused by a sinking of the ore body; as it slips against country rock, the surface of the gold is, in effect, polished as it slides. In the present specimen, an extraordinary mass of gold has accumulated. Adding even more singularity, the blue quartz seen beneath the gold is rare. Both a scientific dream and a collectors ultimate prize.
