17-jewel Cal:72B chronograph movement adjusted to 3 positions with monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance-spring, silvered dial with applied faceted baton hour markers, luminous dots, 5 minute divisions, sunken engine turned subsidiary dials for running seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, luminous hands, outer tachometer graduations, brushed and polished case with chamfered bezel, screw down Oyster crown and screw on back, fitted makers bracelet with folding clasp, together with spare links, case, dial and movement signed

  • The reference 6238 is called by collectors the "Pre-Daytona". Examples were produced in stainless steel and 14kt and 18kt gold. It was published for the first time in the Rolex catalogue for the Italian market in 1964 and remained until 1967. It is estimated that around 3,600 examples were produced from 1964 to 1967. The above lot was purchased by the current owner in 1967.
