A Haida bronze and wood sculpture
Bill Reid, "Killer Whale", 8/9, 1986-91, in green patinated bronze, depicting a killer whale as seen atop a speaker's staff held by the principle figure in Reid's monumental sculpture "The Spirit of Haida Gwaii - the Jade Canoe", mounted on a wood base imitating a potlatch hat, signed below the whale's fluke and again on the wood base.

"The Spirit of Haida Gwaii - the Jade Canoe" (and the first casting of this work - "The Black Canoe") has been called Reid's masterpiece. The full sculpture, over 20 feet in length, resides at the Vancouver International Airport and is illustrated on the Canadian $20 bill.
