Autograph Letter Signed (James Monroe), 1 p, 4to, Oak Hill, July 16, 1823, to Colonel John Tayloe, leaf creased and toned, some discoloration to upper margin.
Monroe sends this note to Colonel John Tayloe, one of the richest planters in Virginia and the owner of the Octagon House in Washington which served temporarily as the Executive Mansion after the burning of the White House by the British. In part:
I have to request that you will confer with the Secretary of the Treasury on the subject, of yours to me, by whom you will be informed of the result.
