Footnotes

  • Although the conical form of this coffee pot is derived from silver prototypes, the cross-strap handles and attachments are taken from Leeds ceramic examples. Coffee was introduced into Europe around 1670, but it is believed that the VOC did not purchase tea, coffee and chocolate services from China until after 1758. See C.J.A Jörg, Chinese Export Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1989, p.82.
