An Italian maiolica albarello
mid 19th century
After the Castelli early 18th century example, decorated with a scene of St Martin and the beggar and the text 'RAD CONSOLID MAIOR', the reverse with an emblem and date, 25.5cm high (large chip to foot restored)
- Please note that the albarello is early 18th century, not 19th as stated in the catalogue. It was made for the Carthusian monastery of San Martino in Naples.
The new estimate should read £1000-1500.
