An impressive Norwegian silver, ivory and chrysophrase centre-piece,
by Marius Hammer, circa 1910,
the large and shallow circular bowl with gilt interior and applied with four walrus heads set with ivory tusks and chrisophrase bosses below, bowl further decorated with four slender semi-circular panels of trailing foliate scrolls on matted ground and each centred with a boss, supported on a spreading circular base and four pierced open-work brackets, also embossed with a band of otters grasping a fish in its mouth and entwined in scroll-work on a matted ground, the central column formed as a detachable goblet and cover with an ivory stem a silver finial modelled as an eagle resting on an ivory knop, terminating in a embossed foot, the bowl embossed with a band of seabirds, trailing foliage and bosses, the whole raised on waisted column set with ivory panels, the separate ebonised stand resting on four ivory ball feet with silver bands, height 69cm, weight 200oz.
