'Patrick Symons (1925-1993) met Uglow when he was studying at Camberwell and remained a friend until his untimely death in a street accident in 1993. He was well informed about perspective and gave Uglow a book on the subject, The Elements of Dynamic Symmetry, by Jay Hambridge. He was also devoted to painting rural England and in particular trees. Symons brought William Darby to Uglow's studio in 1975 (they both showed at Browse and Darby after it opened in 1977). A cello-player, Symons posed in Uglow's studio, playing the same piece of music again and again, except when Uglow worked on the arms. Symons himself painted musicians practising.' (Lampert, p.103)
