A rare Oiseau Chantant, with timepiece alarm-actuated cylinder musical movement,
Swiss, first quarter 20th Century,
No. 853, with captive key-wind going-barrel movement, the bird with iridescent plumage in tones of green with yellow banding, red and dark spotted brown, moving white painted metal beak, wings and tailfeather and rising through finely pierced and tooled gilt grille with geometric patterns and disguised underplate when bird is in operation, the lid with close-detail reclining nude study of 'Maya' by Goya, resting upon lace-covered pillows and blue chaise-lounge, ball-banded border, the main slight-domed top with alternate repeating friezes of flower twists, crescent moon floral appliqués surrounding the enamel and egg-and-dart edge, the oval timepiece set to the front with expanded Western Arabic numerals and minute dividers on plain butter-yellow ground, blued hands and gilt alarm indicator, set and wound from underside, actuating separately wound cylinder musical movement playing two airs with single-section comb of approximately 59 teeth, concealed start/stop button and manual singing bird override pull to right-hand side of the gilt metal case with proud relief band of putti posing with floral swags, wreaths and arrow baskets, on petit circular feet, in original travelling case with crazed-mauve paper covering, fitted interior with red lined velvet - 4.1/8in. (10.5cm) wide
