A late 19th century Austrian silver-gilt and enamelled nef,
maker's mark P L, possibly Ludwig Politzer, Vienna, circa 1890,
modelled as a single masted ship with enamelled pennants and sail, with a figure in the crows' nest, the sail painted with Pan by a altar, the reverse with Erato, the muse of lyric poetry, the poop deck covered by a canopy painted Cupid and mythical beasts, silver gilt armed sailors stand on the fo'c's'le, the enamelled hull painted with a lakeside scene of various godesses, including Diana the Huntress, Neptune, Leda and the Swan, Fortitude, Hebe, Mars and Ursula, raised on four silver gilt wagon wheels, height 27cm, length 22cm.

Footnotes
- The maker's mark P L in an oval does not appear in the register of Viennese Hallmarks 1781-1921 compiled by MAK. However, there are examples of silversmiths reversing their initials in the marks and using both types, hence Politzer, Ludwig. The similarity in style of the mark to those on the previous lot as well as the similarities in the styles of the objects allows us to assume the present lot is by the same hand.
