A Pueblo shield
The thick slightly concave shield of single-ply fire-hardened buffalo hump hide, a natural seam from the animal's back showing vertically down the center, painted with all-native and mineral pigments to depict a pair of horns rising over a central checkered horizon line, diagonal bands marked by chevrons trail off below, within a duotone perimeter, the reverse with a crescent-shaped section of the surface purposefully scraped away at each side, pierced for hide strap handles and attachments.
