Collection of Meteorite Postcards —Four Postcards Featuring the Willamette Meteorite in Oregon and the Hayden Planetarium in New York
The following four old postcards provide different perspectives of the Willamette Meteorite of Clackamas County, Oregon, which is today the centerpiece of Rose Center at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Three of the four images—all black and white—were taken at the American Museum. The color-tinted card is an image taken in Oregon with a note on the reverse, as well as a one cent stamp postmarked May 5, 1909. Published in Germany, this same card is also incorrectly captioned, “Meteorite that Fell at Oregon City, Oregon.” The meteorite was found in the woods and it is hypothesized it was delivered from Canada to Oregon during the last Ice Age.(4)
