A comprehensive survey of all iron meteorites known to exist as of 1973. Volume 1 includes, among other topics, an overview of matter in the solar system, the physics of meteorite falls, impact crater formation, meteorite shapes, meteorite surface characteristics, classification, chemical composition, structural formation and a list of meteorite ages. Volumes 2 and 3 present an exhaustive survey of every known iron meteorite along with copious images, charts, and maps. The lithology and chemical structure of every entry is described in detail as are the circumstances involving the recovery of each meteorite. Volumes are cloth-bound and enclosed in matching cloth case with bibliographic panel. In near-fine condition. Light soiling on top page edges and slight wear on case. Volume 3 has small liquid stains.
In 1963, the author discovered the sixth largest meteorite known to exist. Found in Greenland, it weighs 20 tons and can be seen at the Geological Museum of the University of Copenhagen.
